The County of Caithness in the North of Scotland is a very windy place! We reckon that there are few places where the wind is more reliable and those that live here and windsurf are a fairly contented breed! What's more for the wave enthusiast we have some of the best breaks around - we played host to the 1994 European Surfing Championships.
Although Caithness has a northerly latitude - equivalent to
Alaska - as a result of the currents flowing from the Florida
coast the sea temperature does not vary very much from season to
season and this has a beneficial effect on the land temperatures
as well. We have little snow and because we are on the East coast
a great deal less rain then the West.
Summer temperatures are not high so bring jumpers. However,
when did you last come to Scotland for the sun? The good news is,
of course, that you will have some wonderful scenery in windswept
quiet bays - and you'll probably have them all to yourself.
What's more, the people are incredibly friendly and very
welcoming.
